Just Breathe
Synopsis
In the spring of 1975, six-year-old Katie Torpey walked off her front porch with an older boy from her neighborhood and disappeared. Hours later she was found wandering in the street crying. She never told anyone what happened that day. It was a secret she buried deep inside of her.
Thirty years later in the spring of 2005, Katie is an overweight, unhappily married Hollywood Screenwriter living in Los Angeles. A month before her movie The Perfect Man (Hillary Duff, Heather Locklear, Chris Noth) premieres in theaters across the country, Katie tells her husband she’s going to the Post Office and walks away from her life.
She moves up to Northern CA to live with her sister and start a new life. One day she is hired to write a promo for the Amberwatch Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps missing and abused children. As Katie works on the promo, memories of abuse come flooding back to her from the day she went missing. She remembered the secret she had buried inside of her all these years. At the same time, she finds out her husband had a secret too.
Katie’s life is falling apart. She is 38 years old, seventy-five pounds overweight and in the middle of a bitter divorce. She’s on the verge of losing hope of ever finding happiness when she is randomly introduced to NYC Life Coach Lauren Zander (The Handel Group), which launches Katie on a spiritual, emotional, and physical journey of self-discovery.
From opposite coasts, the women become friends as they dive into Katie’s mind, exposing all her thoughts, fears and lies that have been holding her back from true happiness and success. Katie loses weight, cleans up every mistake in her life and searches the country for the boy from the front porch to confront him about what happened the day she went missing.
JUST BREATHE is an inspirational, transformative tale of one woman’s journey of overcoming her past, becoming free and healthy in her life, and ultimately discovering her purpose on this planet: to tell her story and help protect children.
